employed at the time of graduation in December. He grew up in Stillwater,
singing in the Ascension Episcopal Church under the direction of Nancy
Whipkey and Lisa St. Ores. Tom spent two seasons singing with the Opera
Theater chorus at the University, performing in La Boheme and The Marriage
of Figaro. In addition to singing, Tom also plays violin with one of the
orchestral ensembles at the U.
:: J Michael
Compton (alto - section leader) has sung with the Gregorian Singers
for 20 years. Michael has been the Director of Music at St. Matthew's
Episcopal Church in St. Paul since 1983 and is a successful and
prolific composer. As an organist, he has performed many recitals
at churches in the Twin Cities. He is also an accomplished violinist
and has performed with the Lyra Concert, Salamone Rossi Ensemble, Symphony
of the Lakes, Kenwood Chamber Orchestra and the GSVLOC orchestra.
An avid collector of antiques, he is the proud owner of two reed
organs and over 300 vintage postcards featuring Santa Claus.
:: Charles Hackman (tenor) joined this illustrious ensemble at a time shrouded in the mists of the ages (I've taken part in every Advent Procession but the first). In that time he has been an alto, a tenor, a bass, and in various combinations
simultaneously. In his other lives, he works as a music specialst for a very large printed music retailer, and
deputizes for several church musicians.

groups, to include the Texas Bach Choir, Minneapolis Bach Society,
Concentus Musicus, Dale Warland Symphonic Chorus, Minneapolis Vocal
Consort and St. Catherine's Choral Society. Lynn is a former Orff
Schulwerk music and movement educator and currently works for a food
safety science consulting company. Her favorite things are singing early
music with like-minded folks, gardening, taking walks with her husband,
Steve, and reading a good mystery.

music in the Twin Cities for 20 years. He has performed with the
Minnesota Chorale and the Dale Warland Symphonic Chorus and has

his third season with the Gregorian Singers.

:: Dave Jacobson (baritone) sang in the Dale Warland Singers for its last eight seasons. He also has performed with diverse ensembles, such as the Rod Smith Big Band, Voce Magna, and the Minneapolis Vocal Consort. Her favorite Minneapolis destinations are Cedar Cultural Center, Minneapolis Public Library, and the hiking paths along Mississippi River.

with the VocalEssence Ensemble Singers. He also serves as cantor and

Paul. Mark received his bachelor's degree in 1987 from Luther College
in Decorah, Iowa, and in 1992 he earned his law degree from William
Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul. Mark is employed as an attorney
editor at Thomson West in Eagan.
:: Maureen Long
(alto) began singing with the Gregorian Singers in the fall of 1999.
The group offers her an artistic outlet that balances her work as
a secretary in the physics department at the University of Minnesota.
Currently, she is also the director of the choir at the Church of
Gethsemane in downtown Minneapolis, and is pursuing a master's
degree in counseling psychology and couples and family therapy at
the University of St. Thomas. During sporadic bouts of free time,
she indulges in children's literature and has a penchant for
nocturnal volleyball games.
:: Ron Lutz (tenor) joined the group in 2006. He earned a BA in Math and Computer Science many years ago from the College of St. Thomas, where he was a member of the Chamber Singers and Madrigal Singers. He continues to sing with alumi from those groups, as well as with the St. Catherine Choral Society and an occasional mass at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church. Ron currently works in the Information Systems department at Hamline University.

He is the Choirmaster and Organist at Saint Christopher's Episcopal Church in Roseville, where he's about to lead the parish choir on a Pilgrimage to England - singing at Coventry, York Minster, Durham, Ripon, Ely, and Saint George's Chapel. Jacob also serves on the Bishop's Commission for Liturgy and Music, and became an Episcopalian as a result of his work with The Gregorian Singers. Especially fond of potted palms, smothering draperies, and voluptuous carpets, he haunts mausoleums, derelict churches and root cellars in his free time. Jacob is the highly significant other of John McDaris.
:: John McDaris (baritone - section leader) is a transplant from his native North Carolina. He has sung with The Rose Ensemble, the Minnesota Chorale, and the Raleigh Oratorio Society. this his 38th consecutive year of choral singing. He holds degrees
in Mathematics and Operations Research and makes his living as a
software developer.
:: Daniel Pickens-Jones (baritone) was a tenor with the Gregorian Singers until he screeched a high G in a Guerrero cancione and had to cancel his Junior recital at Macalester College due to vocal fatigue. But he got over it, and is now in his second season with the Gregs and completing his senior year at Mac majoring in Music and International Studies. Before coming to Minnesota, Daniel sang as a boy chorister and lay clerk with the choir of Grace Cathedral (San Francisco), where he learned that every half-decent piece ends with a nice round English cadence. Daniel is assistant conductor of the Macalester Choir and a keen student of Arabic. He imagines spending his career, in the words of Monte Mason, "singing motets from the back of a camel."
:: Laura Rose (soprano) teaches piano for a living. She also keep the old oral tradition of story telling alive for pleasure and writes because she has something to say and in effort to actually become a good writer who can convince someone to publish some of her work. She is in her second year with the Gregorian Singers and finds it musically and spiritually challenging and fulfilling.
:: Lucy Slater (soprano)
:: Rachel Slater (alto)
:: Liz Stanley (alto) joined the Gregorian Singers in 2005 shortly after
moving to Minnesota. Originally from Georgia, she attended the University
of Georgia where she earned degrees in church music and music history, and

theory at the University of Iowa before making a career change to computer
programming. Liz's musical interests include early notation and historical
diction, and she owns a small but growing collection of early music
facsimiles, from which she occasionally transcribes modern performing
editions. Her other interests include computers, birdwatching, nature
photography, sports, and fitness. See more at lizstanley.com.
